Sekitan Blue Tumbler

Products
Mitsuharu Kazuhiro × UNGAPLUS We commissioned Mitsuhiro Mitsu, a potter with a studio in Otaru, to create an original tumbler for UNGAPLUS. The tumbler features eye-catching colors that express the beautiful, sparkling blue sea of Shakotan. Its simple shape provides stability, and the beauty of its presence is also a charm of this vessel.

The oak tree has fragrant leaves, and because its old leaves do not fall off until new buds appear the following year, it is also used as a lucky charm to symbolize "an unbroken line of succession." The character for oak, "kashiwa," is composed of the character "white," which represents purity and innocence before the gods. The word "kashiwade" (kashiwa-de) is likely derived from the precious oak leaves that are used as vessels for offerings to the gods. This oak tree plate is rendered in a sophisticated green glaze.

These vessels can be used on special occasions as well as everyday use, and will enrich your daily life.

Otaru's virgin oak forest

The natural oak forest stretching from the Otaru Zenibako area to Ishikari is one of Japan's largest coastal sand dune forests. This oak forest was protected by an ordinance issued by the Ishikari government office at the end of the Edo period prohibiting reckless cutting, and was designated a coastal protection forest in 1921. Even today, it protects the hinterland from strong winds and blown sand.
