2023.3.2 (Thursday) - 3.4 (Saturday)
11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
We are pleased to announce the exhibition "Otaru-related Hina Dolls from the Collection of Yuji Yamada," curated by Miki Usuki of "Kimono Hana Oatsurae," who organized the "Yukata O-sanpo Market" last summer.
We will be exhibiting Hina dolls with ties to Otaru, made from the Edo period to the early Showa period, which are owned by Yuji Yamada, a Hina doll craftsman from Sapporo.
This valuable exhibition, held at the "Former Otaru Warehouse - unga plus gallery," built by the owner of a Kitamae-bune (a type of sailing ship) that flourished as a logistics hub in Hokkaido from the Meiji to Taisho eras, brings together famous pieces related to the Kihara family, a wealthy family in Otaru. We will also be exhibiting ancient Koinu dolls from the late Edo period, which are thought to have come to Otaru on Kitamae-bune.
This exhibition invites you to contemplate the history connected by the Kitamaejin (North Sea ships) and learn about the connection between Otaru and Hina dolls. We will also be selling dolls made by Mr. Yamada, as well as seasonal accessories. Please take this opportunity to visit us.
