"Exhibition of Otaru-related Hina Dolls from the Collection of Yuji Yamada"

2024.3.1 (Fri) - 3.5 (Tue) 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Following the success of last year's exhibition, we are pleased to present "Kimonohana Oatsurae," a special exhibition curated by Miki Usuki, featuring "Odaruyukari no Hinamatsuri" (Otaru-related Hina dolls) from the collection of Yuji Yamada. We will be exhibiting Hina dolls with ties to Otaru, made from the Edo period to the early Showa period, which are owned by Yuji Yamada, a Hina doll craftsman from Sapporo. This valuable exhibition, held at the "Former Otaru Warehouse - unga plus gallery," built by the owner of a Kitanenmaru ship that flourished as a logistics hub in Hokkaido from the Meiji to Taisho periods, brings together masterpieces related to the Suwaka family, a wealthy family in Otaru. New acquisitions related to old Otaru families will also be exhibited for the first time. This exhibition invites you to contemplate the history connected by the Kitamaejin (North Sea ships) and learn about the connection between Otaru and Hina dolls. We will also be selling dolls made by Mr. Yamada, as well as seasonal accessories. Please take this opportunity to visit us. *Image from last year's exhibition.
