"The hordes are coming."
From March to May, when large schools of herring arrive to spawn, the sea around the coast turns cloudy white. This is called "the herds coming" and signals the arrival of spring on the beach. This is why herring are also known as "harutsugeuo" (spring messenger fish). "kukiru" is a ceramic series based on the theme of "the herds coming" that heralds the arrival of spring in Otaru, depicting the beautiful scene of herds dyeing the blue sea white.
