Taiguruma is a local toy that has been passed down since the Edo period in the Maki district of Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. It is said that around the time of Obon, children dressed in yukata would pull the taiguruma, and at night, candles would be lit inside, creating a bright red scene. 
This is a local toy made of a bamboo frame covered with Japanese paper and wooden wheels. When you pull it along, the sea bream's fins move. The bamboo frame is covered with Japanese paper and features an eye-catching, vibrantly colored sea bream. 
We will deliver it in this original box. 
A summer tradition in Niigata, where the town is dyed bright red. The Taiguruma brings back the beautiful scenery that has been passed down to the present day.
Long ago, around the time of Obon, children dressed in yukata would pull Tai-guruma floats around their houses. These local toys were a symbol of late summer in the Maki district of Niigata City, and could be seen everywhere until around 1955. Made from bamboo and Japanese paper, they were lit with candles inside. We are working to reexamine the role of Tai-guruma floats through Tai-guruma making classes, with the goal of painting the whole town bright red with them.
