This is the first Otaru 'Six-hours model course' for those who have a little longer than three hours, maybe six hours. You will see the 'Old Temiya Line', the birthplace of Hokkaido's first railway, and then head to the Otaru Canal. After a ride on a popular cruise ship, fill your stomach with fresh seafood from Hokkaido and take a stroll along the Sakai-machi shopping street, where you can enjoy the nostalgic Otaru. Finish the tour with a look at the banking district with its historical buildings, including the former Otaru branch of the Bank of Japan, known as the 'Wall Street of the North', and visit the Old Otaru Warehouse, Hokkaido's first business warehouse, built by the Kitamae shipowners of Kaga. You will also get a taste of the history of the Kitamae Ship that pioneered Otaru.

Otaru Station, the gateway to Otaru tourism, opened in 1903 as Otaru Chuo Station of the Hokkaido Railway, was repeatedly renamed Takashima Station and Chuo Otaru Station, and finally became Otaru Station in 1920, mirroring the name of the previous Otaru Station (now Minami Otaru Station).

Straight down the street in front of Otaru Station 'to the old Temiya Line'.
The disused site of the former Temiya Line, a 10-minute walk from JR Otaru Station, is a popular tourist attraction in Otaru. The line was opened from Temiya to Sapporo in 1881 by American railway engineer Joseph Uley Crawford, the first railway in Hokkaido and the third in Japan, for the purpose of transporting coal.

Former Otaru Warehouse, Hokkaido's first operational warehouse, built by a Kitamae shipowner.
The former Otaru Warehouse, with its conspicuous orca-shaped building along the Otaru Canal, is one of the most representative buildings in Otaru, a city with many historical buildings. It was built by Nishiya and Nishiide of Kaga Hashidate in 1890 on the southern beach of Otaru Port, which had just been reclaimed.
