"Rinyu morning market" is a historic market frequented by locals at the northern terminus of the Otaru Canal. 50 years ago, the market was established when a grain warehouse was vacated and turned into a market. Nearby you will find the former Otaru branch of NYK Line, an important cultural asset, Canal Park, and the main building of the Otaru City Museum.
Rinyu morning market is famous for being the earliest market in Otaru and is open from 4:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., but it does not open before 7:00 a.m. However, some stores do not open before 7:00 a.m., and it is usually after 7:00 a.m. when all the stores start to move with their products, including fish caught in the morning.
