Otaru Travel Guide 2023
The BEST Things to Do in Otaru, Japan|Otaru Day Trip
In April 2020, Marutani Bakery moved to a new location near the Asarigawa Hot Springs in Otaru.
Popular staples include the crispy croissant-type bread made from Hokkaido wheat with the right amount of fermented butter aroma, and melon bread with a crispy crust and a moist, fine-textured interior that resembles cookies with a brioche dough-like impression. The bakery is also popular for its hard baked goods made with dried fruits, baguettes, and campagnes, among many other delicious-looking items.
After starting business under the name "Myoken Marche" in the former Myoken Market (Myoken Market will cease operations in March 2020), the bakery moved to Midori-cho in Otaru City in 2016 and has been in business ever since. This is the second time the store has relocated to Asari, where it was newly built and has a parking space for four cars.
The new store has a simple design with no unnecessary elements, and if it were not for the "Marutani Bakery" sign next to the entrance, one might not recognize it as a bakery at first glance. Although it is not allowed to take pictures inside the store, the stylish building makes shopping at Marutani Bakery an exciting and exciting event.
