Quatre Feuilles Atelier Zenibako

Otaru Travel Guide 2023
The BEST Things to Do in Otaru, Japan|Otaru Day Trip

Formerly a popular bakery in Sapporo's Maruyama district, "Cuttlefeuille" moved to Otaru's Zenibako in the spring of 2020 and opened under a new name, "Cuttlefeuille Atelier Zenibako". The name of the store, "Catorfeuille," means a four-leaf clover in French, as shown on the signboard and logo.

When coming from Sapporo, from National Route 5, turn right on Road No. 1126 Zenibako Tekijo Line, which leads to Zenibako Station, and follow the road for about 400 meters to the right. A short walk from the restaurant will take you to the ocean, creating a great atmosphere unique to Zenibako.

Parking space is available for five cars in front of the restaurant, but it is a popular restaurant. On holidays, many cars wait on the street after 10:00 a.m., when the restaurant opens, because they cannot get into the parking lot. When the parking lot is full, cars can park at the Kocho-ji temple diagonally across the street. Popular breads become scarce in the afternoon, so early action is recommended if possible. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

There is a wide selection of breads, including hard, semi-hard, deli, and rusk breads, and the breads are made with the utmost care, so you will never go wrong with any of the breads. Items are not handled with tongs or other tools, but rather are disinfected and hand-grabbed with polyethylene gloves before being transferred to a tray for payment. It is bad manners to put back the items once taken, so choose your items carefully. Even after the relocation to Zenibako, many familiar fans continue to come from outside the city, including Sapporo.

Original products that convey the attractions of Otaru are developed and sold in a storefront converted from the former Otaru warehouse headquarters, which is said to be the oldest business warehouse in Hokkaido, located in the Otaru North Canal area. The shop tells the story of Otaru's prosperity in the pioneering days of Hokkaido and the history of the Kitamaebune, and displays and sells processed seafood and agricultural products from the port of call and Hokkaido, as well as original products by craftsmen and artists associated with Otaru.
