Otaru Travel Guide 2023
The BEST Things to Do in Otaru, Japan|Otaru Day Trip
THE JAZZ HIDEWAY CAFE Free-Lance is a well-known Otaru jazz cafe located about 7 minutes' walk from JR Otaru Station, along the old Temiya Line walking path, and was renovated from the stone storehouse of the former Oba Shoten built in 1908. The shop, which was converted from a stone warehouse of the former Oba Shoten, built in 1908 (1908), looks great from the outside and inside, and fits in perfectly with the nostalgic atmosphere of Otaru.
Open the door and step inside to discover Free-Lance's unique and individual world view, with jazz playing in the background music of course, and both the ground floor and the first floor are highly recommended. Live performances by artists from inside and outside of Hokkaido and sessions by the Otaru Jazz Club are also held here, and there is also a photography exhibition on the second floor. Jazz lovers will definitely want to stop by every time they visit Otaru.
You can also enjoy coffee, pasta, hot sandwiches and sweet treats, and we particularly recommend the famous 'triple coffee'. The rich, deep and dark taste is particularly popular with black coffee drinkers. Alcohol can also be enjoyed at this jazz cafe, which is also popular in the evening.
