"What is this?" I found while walking around Otaru
I guess it's famous in that area...
Every time I pass by I wonder, "What is this strange three-story building?

I wonder if someone is still using it, or if no one is using it anymore, but it's definitely a building with a strong presence (though I was thinking to myself, "What the heck is this?" lol)

Looking closely, I noticed that the front of the house was covered with slate slabs cut to resemble fish scales, and it didn't look like an ordinary residential house, so I imagined that it might have been a seafood-related business.

Looking more closely, I noticed that there was a nameplate with Mr./Ms. XX on it, so it must have been Mr./Ms. XX's house (perhaps it was also his/her business at one time?).
Even so, it is a very curious and intriguing building, and one cannot help but wonder whether it was built by copying some model, or whether it is simply a reflection of the builder's personality.
