"What is this?" I found while walking around Otaru
As the head of the Scouting Department of the Kita Canal Totanista Association, I try to discover new Totanistas whenever I can, but I'd like to take this opportunity to summarize what Totanistas are and their philosophy.
We hope that you will be kind enough to be patient with us and provide us with warm guidance in the future activities of the Kita Canal Totanista Association.

◆The Totanista philosophy is a shift in values...
After years of natural processes - oxidation, corrosion and fading - the galvanized iron sheet used for the exterior walls of the building and the surrounding materials begin to show a "harmony of withering", a part of the cycle of life and death that could never be created by human hands. This mysterious harmony created by the hands of God is likened to a character in order to create value for itself, like contemporary art, and is an attempt to spread it with love. Separated from the everyday life and aversion to decadence, the focus is solely on the harmonious beauty of withering.
What is the Kita Canal Totanista Association? Creating local fans...
We aim to find potential Totanistas along the North Canal, personify the unique features of the buildings, and gain as many fans as possible. Through these activities, we are a non-profit, self-centered association that aims to create Totanista content for the world as one of the attractions of the North Canal.
