"What is this?" I found while walking around Otaru
Interesting Buildings on the North Canal (Part 2) If you enter the Old Temiya Line Promenade from the direction of the Otaru City Museum and start walking towards Otaru Station, you will soon find a large, two-story house with earthen walls and a very dignified atmosphere on your left.

I think its age plays an important role in creating an old-fashioned atmosphere in the surrounding area. At first glance, the windows are barred and boarded up, so I thought "Maybe no one lives here anymore," but when I saw vegetables planted in one corner of the garden, I realized it's probably still in use.

The large green roof that matches the wall color beautifully, the long, horizontally-oriented living area, the mud walls that have absorbed the atmosphere of each era, the iron bars on the windows - all these elements intertwine to create a sense of the story of this place. It has an indescribable presence.
I fully understand how difficult it is to maintain wooden buildings, but I hope that they will remain in use forever as one of the main players in creating the unique landscape of the city that can never be regained if lost.
