HomeOtaru Sightseeing Portal | Hanazono Area

Located midway between JR Otaru Station and Minami-Otaru Station, the Hanazono district, along with the adjacent Inaho district, has long flourished as the center of Otaru City.

The Hanazono area, extending south from under the JR Hakodate Main Line overpass, is an entertainment district with many snack bars.

National Route 5 runs through the center of the Hanazono district. On the mountain side of the road are government offices such as the city hall and fire department. On the sea side is the "Hanazono Ginza Shopping Street," lined with traditional cafes, sushi restaurants, and Chinese restaurants. Turn into an alley and you'll find countless small snack bars and izakayas.

The roads are intricately intertwined like a maze, creating a deep entertainment district with an atmosphere reminiscent of a Showa-era film set. The streets and alleys have charming names such as "Yoimachi-dori" (Street of Waiting for Evening), "Hashigo-dori" (Ladder Street), and "Suparu-dori." As dusk approaches, the signs of "Yoimachi-dori" light up one by one, inviting you into a deeply enchanting time.
