Good fortune from Otaru, the city of shipping...
May good fortune be with you, supported by a flow that has been preserved without interruption.
May your luck open up.

In the Meiji period, Otaru prospered as the gateway to the development of Hokkaido.
Kitamaebune ships sailed the vast ocean with their pure white sails, bringing many goods and cultures to this land through their trade with Honshu.

UNGAPLUS delivers original products embodying the history and culture that still remain in Otaru, as well as fine goods from Kitamaebune port towns, from the "Former Otaru Warehouse Main Building," the first commercial warehouse in Hokkaido built by Kitamaebune shipowners Magosaku Nishide and Shohachi Nishitani.

The story of Otaru, which walked hand-in-hand with the Kitamaebune, begins here.

Hokkaido, where we live, is blessed with rich nature that changes with the four seasons. "Northern Handicrafts" are born from the perspective of people who live on the land of Hokkaido, conversing daily with the vast nature and being nurtured by it. Warehouse 3: NAKASHI

Bringing traditional clothing to the present
During the heyday of Otaru Port, when many Kitamaebune ships were anchored in every available space, the area around the canal was bustling with "nakashi" (stevedores). Many nakashi also worked at the Former Otaru Warehouse, which faced the boat basin. Inspired by the work clothes worn by these nakashi, the original brand "NAKASHI" was created. We deliver the stories spun by Otaru, reflecting on the daily life of the Former Otaru Warehouse in those days, along with furniture made during the Meiji and Taisho periods and tools that bear the traces of port town life.

Warehouse 4: Shirafudo

Showcasing regional quality products
From the Meiji to Taisho eras, Otaru flourished as the gateway to the development of Hokkaido. It prospered with the herring fishing industry, connected by "Kitamaebune" ships sailing between Osaka and Hokkaido. The Kitamaebune not only transported cargo but also served as "kaizumisen" (trading ships) that bought and sold goods at various ports of call, carrying products and cultures from different regions and creating new ones. Inside the store, fishing gear and old tools related to herring fishing, which was a main commodity of the Kitamaebune, are displayed. We deliver carefully selected items from the ports of call, recalling the history connected by the Kitamaebune.
