Kamaei, a popular kamaboko (fish cake) shop in Otaru that has been loved for many years by both Otaru residents and many Hokkaido residents, was founded in 1905 (Meiji 38). It now boasts over 100 years of history, with a total of 12 stores including 4 in the city, 6 in Sapporo, and stores at airports.

The main factory store, where you can observe the manufacturing process, also has a parking lot capable of accommodating approximately 90 cars. Photo taken to include the entire view from the main store's parking lot, centered on the main entrance.

In addition to red and white plate kamaboko, which are essential for celebrations, there are also un-fried kamaboko such as "Uni-ita" (sea urchin plate) and "Yaki-ita" (grilled plate). Many Hokkaido residents are such fans that they say, "It's not a celebration without Kamaei's kamaboko."

3-4 staff members are always present at the Kamaei main store's direct sales counter to serve customers in line.

At the main factory in Sakaimachi, Otaru City, you can watch skilled artisans making kamaboko through glass for free, and freshly fried kamaboko made on the spot is very popular.

The most recommended item is the limited-edition "Pan Roll," which was reportedly developed by the previous president in 1962 (Showa 37). The Pan Roll, made by wrapping surimi (fish paste) of Alaska pollock with minced pork and onions in ultra-thin bread and then frying it, is an exquisite kamaboko dish with a crispy texture, perfectly balanced saltiness, and the sweetness of the surimi.
