Temiya Park, which includes the Temiya Ryokka Botanical Garden famous for its cherry blossoms, was granted government land in 1900 (Meiji 33) to be used as a public amusement park. It is a comprehensive park located on a hill in the city center, and is the fourth oldest urban park still existing in Hokkaido.

Approximately 700 cherry trees, including Ezo mountain cherry and Somei Yoshino, are planted here, with the peak viewing season from early to mid-May. There is also a natural chestnut grove, said to be the northernmost limit for such a forest, where about 250 trees over 100 years old remain.

In recent years, the "Northern Chestnut Grove Association" was formed, and the park is highly regarded by local citizens who love it, as they grow and replant seedlings from the chestnuts in the park.
